A second ElectriFI Country Window Contract (covering Uganda, Eswatini, Burundi and Kenya) was signed in 2020, and topped up at the end of 2021 with €23 million for Kenya, making Kenya the largest country window within ElectriFI. The top-up of the existing Country Window II for Kenya will further support the development of solar home systems, mini-grids, clean cooking, captive power, energy efficiency, utility scale renewable energy generation, transmission, distribution, and storage projects. It is expected to help bring renewable energy to at least 8 million people. It will support Kenya’s electricity grid, and increase access to sustainable, modern and affordable electricity for rural and peri-urban households and small businesses.
