How to support early-stage project development?

On 16 February 2017, ElectriFI participated in the Roundtable ‘How To Support Early-Stage Project Development?’, organised by the Belgian Federal Ministry of Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development, and the Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP).

Pre-construction stage funding is crucial in expanding the access to renewable energy. Developers are often short of capital, especially early risk capital, obstructing the reach of financial close. Maaike Gobel shared ElectriFI’s experiences of the last 10 months regarding the challenges faced by early-stage project support.

The Roundtable was attended by approximately 30 representatives of financing institutions, the private sector, development agencies and other relevant parties. Lively debates turned the day into a productive exchange of knowledge and experiences.
